About Sherlock Homes

Sherlock Homes is a partnership between brothers Gary and John Sherlock, based out of Te Anau and Invercargill. Since 1984, Sherlock Homes have built quality homes throughout Southland. Sherlock Homes are Registered Mastered Builders and licensed building practitioners. John is the past president of the Southland Registered Master Builders Association. John, Gary and the team at Sherlock Homes believe that quality building is their best advertisement, and pride themselves on completing all builds to a high standard.

John Sherlock

John has been a builder since 1972. After doing his apprenticeship, he went out on his own from 1984. Gary and John have been partners since 1987.
John knows quality work when he sees it. He’s been a strong supporter of quality building work in Southland and is the past president of the Southland Registered Master Builders Association. John enjoys being a builder as no two days are the same, and the job keeps you fit and active. He made lots of friends through building and enjoys meeting lots of different people on the job.
He finds it rewarding to see a job to completion. He likes seeing what you can do with houses once you renovate them. John’s philosophy is that quality work is your biggest advertisement in the building industry, so that’s what he works by.
outside of work he’s a keen sports person. He enjoys following the rugby and is a keen golfer. He’s also a keen fisherman and enjoys getting out on the boat on lake Te Anau.

Gary Sherlock

Gary brings a wealth of experience to his role as a builder, he’s been building for 42 years. Gary and John have been partners for 30 years now. Gary became a builder fresh out of high school and has always enjoyed his job. He enjoys the variation, and the challenge of each job – no two jobs are the same and every day is different. He likes that building keeps him fit, traveling about, and outdoors.
Gary believes that producing quality work for the clients is key. Communicating with and satisfying the client is key to success. Sherlock Homes completing quality work means they have a lot of ongoing clients. He says it’s pretty simple; “Do a good job, and word gets around.”
Outside of work Gary enjoys getting out on the water in his boat, fishing and taking the grandkids out waterskiing. He’s a keen sports man and enjoys rugby, golf and being involved in his families’ sports.

Regan Jones – Foreman Invercargill

Regan has been a builder for 22 years and completed his apprenticeship through Sherlock Homes. Regan enjoys being a builder, because of the practical skills you develop, and what you learn from working with other trades. He likes that he can even build his own house. Regan enjoys the variety of his job; working across different locations, and talking to different people.
Outside of work Regan enjoys spending time mucking about with his kids out on his 10-acre lifestyle block.

Corey Turner – Foreman Invercargill

Corey has been working with Sherlock for 11 years. He has completed his building apprenticeship through Sherlock. Corey really likes building things and helping people by building. With new builds, he likes to see bare land turn into somewhere where people live and call home. He likes the variety of work that Sherlock Homes have, from renovations, to new houses, schools and council work.
He finds it really rewarding to see a house finished, and to bump into owners’ months later, to hear they’re still enjoying living in their home. Corey’s philosophy behind his standard of work is to ask himself; “would you be happy to have this quality of work in your house? If you wouldn’t be, don’t expect someone else to be.”
Outside of work Corey is renovating his own home. When he’s not hammer in hand, he enjoys watching sport, and playing golf.
